PRESS RELEASE

The Embassy of India in Bishkek is organising 12th  International Day of Yoga (IDY-2026) at the Alley in front of the statue of Kurmanjan Datka, Bishkek (near Ala Too Cinema) on Sunday, 21st June 2026 from 1900 hrs. onwards

2.   Since its inception, IDY has emerged as an annual celebration of Yoga across the world, towards achieving health and well being of both mind and body. This year’s theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” underscores the instrumental role regular practice of Yoga can play in ensuring physical and mental well being and in fostering healthy and active ageing. It is the power within us to transform ourselves we will celebrate on this special day.

3.   On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The resolution was co-sponsored by a record number of 175 member states. Since then, millions around the globe, united by the practice of yoga, have been celebrating this day with great fervour each year. This global celebration fosters unity and harmony, transcends borders and cultures, and brings us closer to a world of peace and well-being.

4.  This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” beautifully captures the enduring relevance of yoga in today’s world. Yoga is not merely a physical discipline; it is a holistic practice that nurtures the body, calms the mind, deepens self-awareness and promotes harmony within society. At a time when the world faces stress, conflict, lifestyle challenges and growing mental health concerns, yoga offers a timeless pathway to balance, compassion and inner strength.

5. Over the years, International Day of Yoga celebrations in the Bishkek have grown into one of the most widely attended Yoga Day events in the Kyrgyz Republic, drawing enthusiastic participation from the Indian community, yoga institutions, wellness practitioners, diplomatic community and friends of India. This year’s celebration seeks to bring together people from all walks of life in the spirit of wellness, unity and collective well-being  to celebrate yoga not only as a physical practice, but as a holistic way of life that nurtures resilience, inner balance and social harmony.

6. The event will feature a large-scale yoga session led by experienced instructor and will be open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Participants will be guided through simple yoga postures, breathing practices and relaxation techniques aimed at promoting physical health, mental clarity and emotional balance.

7. The Embassy of India extends a warm invitation to members of the Indian community, friends of India, yoga institutions, wellness practitioners, diplomatic organizations, students and all residents of Bishkek to join this meaningful celebration.
