Celebration of 10th International Day of Yoga in the Kyrgyz Republic
The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was organized by the Embassy in the cities of Bishkek, Issyk-Kul, Jalalabad, Kant and Osh in the Kyrgyz Republic on the theme of “Yoga for self and Society”. The curtain raiser event was held on 8th June, 2024 on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake where participants performed Yoga Asanas. The event was graced by Mayor of Cholpon-Ata City H.E. Mr. Azamat Turdubekov.
- IDY was celebrated by the Embassy in the backdrop of the iconic monument of Kurmanjan Datka in Bishkek on 22nd June, 2024 in collaboration with the Office of the Mayor of Bishkek City. Vice Mayor of Bishkek H.E. Ms. Victoria Mozgacheva was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Ambassador Mr. Arun K. Chatterjee and Vice Mayor of Bishkek City addressed the gathering. Around 400 persons including representatives of the Diplomatic community and officials of Kyrgyz Republic, performed Yoga which was followed by cultural performances.
- In his address, Ambassador recalled that Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, suggested towards adopting an International Yoga Day, as Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; and a holistic approach to health and well being. He added that the theme this year highlights the profound impact of yoga on enhancing personal well-being and fostering harmony in the society. He emphasized on the importance of integrating yoga into the daily lives of individuals who can then encourage others to do the same.
- IDY was organized by the Embassy on 21st June, 2024 in the city of Osh in collaboration with the Office of the Mayor of Osh City and the Osh State University. Vice Mayor of Osh City H.E. Mr. Nurbek Kadyrov was the Chief Guest at this event. Rector of Osh State University Mr. Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Both addressed the gathering on this occasion. The yoga event saw participation by around 300 persons.
- IDY was held on 21st June 2024 at the Jalalabad State University (JSU) in Jalal-Abad city and on 23rd June 2024 at the Asian Medical University (AMU) in Kant city. More than 100 persons participated in each of these two events. The programme at JSU was presided by Dean Dr. Zulfia Sakbaieva and the event at AMU was graced by Vice Rector Dr. Prashant Ranjan Mishra.
