Address by Ambassador on Mother’s Day
(Jalal-Abad; 18 May, 2024; 10 AM)
Distinguished dignitaries on the dais,
Ladies & Gentlemen,
Good morning!
I am delighted to be here in the beautiful city of Jalal-Abad today to celebrate ‘Mother’s Day’ with all of you. I thank the organizers of this event for inviting me to join all of you in celebrating this day. I take this opportunity to convey greetings from all the mothers in India to the mothers in the Kyrgyz Republic.
- As we celebrate motherhood on Mother's Day, I am happy to be in the company of this really wonderful group of mothers and grandmothers and their daughters who are here with us today. Mothers are the backbone of our families and communities. They are the ones who nurture and support us, who teach us how to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong, and are always standing with us at all times. They are the ones who make sacrifices for us, who work hard to provide for us, who are always there to listen to us and offer us their valuable advice. Mothers truly are the cornerstone of families, often selflessly working around the clock to ensure the well-being and happiness of their loved ones. Recognizing and honouring their contributions not just on Mother's Day but every day is important, as they play an indispensable role in shaping our lives and nurturing our dreams.
- The mother-child relationship is the most beautiful bond that God has created and an inseparable one too. The health of the mother and the child is thus important. Our endeavour should be to ensure that we do not lose any mother or child. Government of India is, therefore, happy to collaborate with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and UNFPA in implementing the project called “Increase access of rural women to quality reproductive and maternal health services in maternity hospitals with the highest number of deliveries” in the Kyrgyz Republic. Government of India is extending funding support of US$ 1 million for this project which is expected to be implemented during 2024 and 2025.
- The objective of this project is to bring down preventable maternal and neo-natal mortality and morbidity in some of the selected regions of the Kyrgyz Republic. Tele-medicine and tele-consulting reproductive and maternal service will be made available through this project and would be accessible in five maternity hospitals covering a large population. One of these is the Maternity House in Jalal-Abad where we have assembled now. The other hospitals are in Bishkek, Osh, Karakol and Chui regions. E-Healthcare services would also be available in these hospitals. The project will enable the Kyrgyz Republic in moving towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
- As envisaged in this project, contributing to improving maternal health in the Kyrgyz Republic is the key objective. Celebration of “Mothers day” is a noble endeavour that can have a profound impact on the lives of many women by creating awareness about maternal health. It is heartening to see mothers and maternity homes coming together for this purpose which is likely to make a positive impact in the Kyrgyz Republic.
- On this Mother’s day, we recall the hard work put in by health care providers to support families and communities, to help women in getting access to skilled care at birth and quality reproductive health care services. I would like to express our deepest respect and appreciation for the extraordinary and life-saving work that midwives, Obstetricians, Gynecologists and other health care providers undertake every day, often under very challenging circumstances.
- Before concluding, let me once again thank Deputy of Ministry of Health Dr. Aijamal Shambetova, Head of Jalal-Abad Maternity Home Dr. Ulan Zhabarov, Head of UNFPA Office Mr. Baktybek Kainazarov, and Deputy Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in Jalal-Abad oblast for providing me this opportunity to be at this auspicious event marking Mother’s Day. Embassy of India, Bishkek, looks forward to working closely with all of you in implementing the project to improve reproductive and maternal health in the Kyrgyz Republic and in Jalal Abad.
Happy Mother's Day!
