INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2024
ADDRESS BY AMBASSADOR
Vice-Mayor of Bishkek Her Excellency Madam Victoria Mozgacheva
Friends from the Diplomatic Community,
My Colleagues in the Embassy,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good Evening!
It gives me a great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 10th International Day of Yoga celebration today. It may be recalled that Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, suggested towards adopting an International Yoga Day, as Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; and a holistic approach to health and well being. Subsequently, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution on 11th December, 2014 and declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. Since then, millions of people across continents, including in the Kyrgyz Republic, have taken part in the celebration of International Yoga Day every year.
- The theme for the International Day of Yoga this year is “Yoga for Self and Society” which highlights the profound impact of yoga on enhancing personal well-being and fostering harmony in the society. It emphasizes the importance of integrating yoga into our daily lives and encouraging others to do the same. Yoga offers a sanctuary of calm enabling us to navigate life’s challenges with fortitude. It has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries uniting millions across the globe in the pursuit of holistic well-being.
- In the Kyrgyz Republic this year, the International Day of Yoga celebrations were launched from the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul on 8th June, 2024 in collaboration with the Office of the Mayor of Cholpan-Ata. I am happy to inform you that International Day of Yoga was celebrated in the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad on 21st June yesterday with big enthusiasm. It is going to be held in Kant tomorrow, that is, 23rd June. We are extremely grateful to the authorities in the Kyrgyz Republic and to the Mayor of Bishkek for the excellent support that we have received in celebrating International Day of Yoga in the Kyrgyz Republic and in Bishkek today.
- At the Embassy of India, we are conducting Yoga classes free of cost. Ms. Lunara Tynalieva, who would be demonstrating Yoga today, is also our Yoga Instructor at the Embassy. I welcome you all to enroll and join our Yoga classes. I would also like to inform you that Government of India is organizing a ‘Yoga with Family’ video contest. Also, the competition for Prime Minister of India’s Awards for Yoga 2024 is also open for all Yoga enthusiasts who have made significant contribution to promoting Yoga.
