INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2023

ADDRESS BY AMBASSADOR

Vice-Mayor of Bishkek Her Excellency Ms. Victoria Mozgacheva,

Friends from the Diplomatic Community,

Friends from the media,

My Colleagues in the Embassy,

Dear Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good Evening!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the celebration of the 9th International Day of Yoga. It may be recalled that Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014, urged the world community to adopt an International Day of Yoga. Subsequently, United Nations General Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution on 11th December, 2014 and declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. Since then, millions of people across the world, including in the Kyrgyz Republic, have taken part in the celebration of Yoga Day every year and have thereby transformed it into a global health movement.

  1. Highlighting the benefits of Yoga, our Prime Minister has said that “in a world beset by various challenges, over a billion people see Yoga as an enhancer of their physical, mental, spiritual and intellectual well-being. The beauty of Yoga lies in its simplicity. All it requires is some time and a little space. In this day and age, where fast paced lifestyles and packed routines are the norm, Yoga assures inner peace and tranquility”.

  1. Yoga, which is an ancient Indian tradition, is becoming more and more popular all over the world. The theme of the International Day of Yoga this year is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which means “The World is One Family”. In line with this theme, we are celebrating the International Day of Yoga this year to generate awareness amongst all about the many advantages of practicing yoga. Here at the Embassy of India in Bishkek, we are conducting Yoga classes free of cost to encourage all to practice Yoga. Ms. Lunara Tynalieva, who would be demonstrating Yoga today, is also our Yoga Instructor at the Embassy.

  1. We are extremely grateful to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and to the Mayor of Bishkek for the excellent support that we have received over these years to celebrate the International Day of Yoga in the Kyrgyz Republic. The celebrations this year began at Issyk-Kul on 11thJune and will continue today here and thereafter on 21stJune in the cities of Osh, Kant and Jalal-Abad. We are extremely thankful to you, Madam Victoria and your outstanding Team for the excellent arrangements today at this beautiful square dedicated to Kurmanjan Datka. I would also like to thank my colleagues at the Embassy for their efforts in preparing for this event. A big thank you to the media, Ms. Lunara and Ms. Alina and her students for lending their support.

  1. Above all, I would like to thank you all Yoga enthusiasts for joining us today to celebrate the International Yoga Day and making it a grand success. I wish you all good-health and success in all your endeavours.

  1. Thank you once again!
