12th International Day of Yoga 2026

Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain, Honorable Governor of the state of Bihar

Mr. Tugolbaev Daveletbek Orozobekovich,Head of the Development Policy Department of the Bishkek City Hall

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen

Namaste and Good Evening to all of you.

It is a great pleasure to join you in celebrating the 12th International Day of Yoga. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights yoga’s unique ability to promote physical vitality, mental well-being, emotional balance, and healthy longevity for people of all ages.

Yoga is one of India’s most ancient and valuable gifts to humanity. For thousands of years, it has guided people towards health, self-discipline, and inner peace.

Recognizing its universal value, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in December 2014, declaring 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, with the support of a record 177 Member States. This unprecedented global endorsement reflects yoga’s power to transcend borders, cultures, and communities.

This year, the Government of India is promoting the vision of “Yoga 365”—encouraging people to practice yoga not just on one day, but every day of the year as a way of life. The objective is to make yoga a daily habit that contributes to healthier individuals, stronger communities, and a more harmonious world.

I am also delighted to note a remarkable achievement in the lead-up to this year’s celebrations. On 14 June 2026, a Guinness World Record attempt was organized through a single online yoga platform, bringing together 435,831 participants, demonstrating the extraordinary global enthusiasm for yoga and its growing digital reach.

Yoga today is not only a wellness practice but also an emerging competitive discipline through Yogasana Championships, where athletes display exceptional strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, and concentration. In this regard, I would like to congratulate Mr. Daniel of Kyrgyzstan for representing the country in World Yogasana competitions at Gujarat India.

I am particularly pleased to witness the increasing acceptance of yoga across Kyrgyzstan. The enthusiasm of yoga schools, universities, practitioners, and wellness communities has significantly strengthened the cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Kyrgyzstan.

As we gather today, let us remember that yoga is much more than physical exercise. It is a pathway to healthier living, mental resilience, social harmony, and sustainable well-being. In a rapidly changing world, yoga offers a timeless message of balance, compassion, and peace.

I extend my sincere appreciation to all organizers, volunteers, yoga teachers, participants, and partners who have contributed to making this celebration a success.

Let us embrace the spirit of “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” and the vision of “Yoga 365,” making yoga an integral part of our daily lives for a healthier, happier, and more peaceful future.

Thank you.
